Shyamal Majumdar

Professor Shyamal Majumdar, Ph.D. is the head of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre in Bonn, Germany since May 2011. From 2007 until his appointment at UNESCO-UNEVOC, he served as the Director General of the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC), an inter-governmental international organization for human resource development in Asia-Pacific region located in Manila, Philippines. For four years, he also served as Vice President of IVETA (International Vocational Education and Training Association, USA). Prior to all his international engagements, he worked as a former professor and department head at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR) in India. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication engineering, a Master's degree in telecommunications engineering, and Ph.D. in educational computing.
 
Throughout his career, Prof. Majumdar engaged as a TVET and ICT expert in a wide range of capacities both at regional and international level. He worked with many development partners including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), UN Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC), European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP), European Training Foundation (ETF), UN Volunteers (UNV), and the World Bank. Working closely with various international and regional development organizations and technical, vocational institutes across all region of the world, he conducted a variety of programmes and projects in the education and skill sector through his strong expertise and background in Education and training.
 
Prof. Majumdar worked on more than 200 research papers and edited more than 30 books. His current research interest includes sustainable development agenda and development of integrated smart village in rural sector in addressing several SDA using skill as a driver for change.
He received many International Awards and certifications from a number of international and regional organizations, including the American Vocational Education Research Association (AVERA), ADBI, UNESCO, and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), among of these includes the distinguished IVETA Award and CPSC TVET Leadership Award for his contributions in TVET in the Asia and Pacific region.
